Description

Albert Gallatin is best remembered for his thirteen year tenure as Secretary of the Treasury during the Jefferson and Madison administrations. In that time he reduced the national debt, purchased the Louisiana Territory and funded the Lewis & Clark exploration. Gallatin’‘s accomplishments and contributions are highlighted in his restored country estate, Friendship Hill.

Hours:

The Gallatin House is open - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily April through October.

We suggest you start your visit at the visitor center located in the historic Gallatin House.

The Park Grounds and Trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset, all year. Please note: While the park is open Sunrise to Sunset - the Gallatin House Visitor Center may be closed during the winter season.

Basic Directions

From Downtown Pittsburgh (approx. 2 hrs)
Take US 51 south to Uniontown and US 119 south to Point Marion. Then take PA 166 north. The park entrance is on left, 3 miles north of Point Marion.

From Pittsburgh Airport (approx. 2 hrs)
Take US 60 toward Pittsburgh and exit right on I-79 South toward Washington, PA. Remain on I-79 South, continuing toward Morgantown, West Virginia, and take exit #3 (Waynesburg exit). From there, take PA 21 east to Masontown. Take PA Route 166 south. The park entrance is on right 1 mile south of New Geneva.

From the Pennsylvania Turnpike (approx. 1 hr.)
After 15 minutes on the road, take Exit #8 - New Stanton, then drive US 119 south through Connellsville and Uniontown to Point Marion, PA. Take PA 166 north. The park entrance is on the left, 3 miles north of Point Marion.

From Western Maryland (approx. 1 hr)
Take I-68 west over Cheat Lake to HWY 857 (there are two HWY 857 exits) to Morgantown, WV. Take the Pierpont road exit off I-68. and turn right at top of ramp toward Morgantown. Follow directions from Morgantown, WV, below.

From Morgantown, WV (approx. 30 minutes)
Take US 119 north to Point Marion, PA. After crossing bridge over the Cheat River, turn left onto PA 166. Park entrance is on the left, 3 miles north of Point Marion.

From Fort Necessity National Battlefield (approx. 40 minutes)
Go west on US Hwy 40 to Uniontown bypass and exit on US Hwy 119 South - Morgantown Road exit. Take US 119 South to Point Marion, PA and then take 166 north. The park entrance is on the left, 3 miles north of Point Marion.
