Even short a sugar craving there's plenty sweet to be said about Hershey, a small Pennsylvania town acclaimed internationally for its chocolates but also of note for its big amuseument parks.
A sprawling, English-style country estate and private residence it a former life, Rockwood mansion and gardens is now open to the public interested in a glimpse of the estate's genteel past. Enjoy a guided tour of the mansion turned museum for an insider's look at the lives of Joseph Shipley, merchant banker, who had the place built in the mid-19th century, and his descendents, who inhabited the mansion during the Gilded Age. Period furnishings, historic artifacts and old photographs help set the scene, and visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the grounds once they've finished or sign up for a Ghost Tour after hours.
