Steamtown National Historic Site

Feel the heat from the firebox. Hear the bell and whistle. Smell the hot steam and oil. Feel the ground vibrate under your feet. See the one ton drive rods turn the wheels. Hear the chuff-chuff-chuff of the smokestack. Today, you can relive the era of steam as the engines come back to life. The cinders, grease, oil, steam, people and stories of railroading have returned.

 The Basics

Hours:

The Park is open daily from 10 am - 4 pm, effective January 2 - March 31, 2007; regular Park hours (9 am - 5 pm) will resume again on April 1. The Park’‘s museums and grounds, including outdoor exhibits, parking areas and the connecting walkway to the Mall at Steamtown, close promptly at 4:00 pm.

Steamtown does close, or delay opening, during severe weather events such as severe icing or substantial snowfalls. If you are coming to Steamtown, and it is, or will soon be, snowing, call (570) 340-5200 after 7:00 am for delay or closure information.

(Please note that the connecting walkway to the "Mall at Steamtown" is not the property of Steamtown National Historic Site and is subject to closure during inclement weather. This walkway is generally closed during the winter months. Parking at the "Mall at Steamtown" is, therefore, not recommended.)
