Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial

Visit the house where wounded Polish freedom fighter Thaddeus Kosciuszko lived and hear how this brilliant military engineer designed successful fortifications during the American Revolution. See the room where he received notable visitors such as Chief Little Turtle and Thomas Jefferson, who said he was "as pure a son of liberty, as I have ever known..."

 Directions

Eastbound, via I-76 (the Schuylkill Expressway)
Exit onto I-676 East (toward "Central Philadelphia) and follow it to the 6th Street exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp follow signs for Independence Park Visitor Center.

Westbound
After crossing the Ben Franklin Bridge - stay in the right hand lane and follow signs for Independence Visitor Center.

Northbound via I-95
Exit at "Independence Hall/Historic Area." At bottom of ramp follow signs for Independence Visitor Center.

Southbound via I-95
Use "Independence Hall/Historic Area" exit. At the bottom of the exit ramp follow signs for Independence Visitor Center.

Four distinct seasons with moderately cold winter and hot, humid summer. January average temperature, 33° Fahrenheit; July average temperature, 75°; average yearly rainfall, 41 inches; normal seasonal snowfall, 21 inches.

 Things To Do
 

Come and explore the life of Thaddeus Kosciuszko. Located inside the house are exhibits, an information area and a small bookstore. A room furnished as it might have been during Thaddeus' time is located on the second floor.

An audio-visual program describes the house and the life of Thaddeus Kosciuszko. Self guided tours of the House begin on the first floor.

Presentations by park rangers are available throughout the year. NPS staff can answer questions and provide in-depth information concerning the Kosciuszko House, Independence National Historical Park, and Edgar Allan Poe National Historical Site.
