Wilmington is the largest city in the state of Delaware with a population of over 72,000 people. Considered the “Corporate Capital of the World,” Wilmington is the designated home for over half of the nation’s Fortune 500 companies, and is one of the richest cities in the country. Wilmington is a city undergoing a significant boost in activity, with many locals working to revamp a city with an already strong base. Boasting a strong economy, a diverse cultural scene and historically sound architecture, Wilmington is increasing its popularity through various urban developments and renovations. Wilmington offers an array of activities from a day at the Brandywine Park and Zoo, to an evening at the opera, the symphony or the Delaware Theater Company. The Delaware History Center is a popular stop in downtown Wilmington, featuring art and memorabilia from the state’s history. At the Delaware Art Museum visitors can view American art collections, and Pre-Raphaelite art, while the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts focuses on modern works. In the center of downtown, there are plenty of opportunities for shopping and eating at places like the Shipyard Shops and the Riverfront Market. Wilmington is located in the northern region of Delaware, in the Baltimore/Philadelphia/ Washington, D.C. megalopolis. It is just between Pennsylvania’s southeastern border, and the southwestern edge of New Jersey. The Wilmington Rail Station serves the city, making daily trips to New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
