New Castle, Pennsylvania Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

New Castle is a small town, with a population of around 5,000 residents. Located just south of Wilmington, along the shores of the Delaware River, New Castle is steeped in local history, with a number of museums and historic houses.

Places like the Old New Castle Court House Museum, the Dutch House and Amstel House Museum showcase the history of the region. Old churches and inns reside throughout the area, giving it an old-world colonial feel.

Fort Delaware is located nearby on Pea Patch Island on the Delaware River. Built to protect Wilmington and Philadelphia is the early 1800s, it served as a prison for decades, and is now a state park. It functions as a prime birding destination and special events are offered at the park throughout the year.

New Castle is located in the northern section of Delaware, six miles south of Wilmington. It is just across the Delaware River from the western border of New Jersey.
