“The Original Outlet Capital of the World,” Reading, Pennsylvania has a unique old world charm. Founded by the offspring of William Penn, Reading began as an industrial port, and some of the remaining supply buildings and train stations have evolved into popular tourist outlet malls. Take a trip back several hundred years to nearby Birdsboro, where you’ll find the Daniel Boone Homestead, site of the famous woodsman. Tour the log cabins and lands surrounding the homestead and learn of a time in Pennsylvania when the living wasn’t so easy. For the recreation enthusiast, Blue Marsh Lake, just west of Reading, is a popular spot for skiing in the winter and hiking in the spring and summer with boating and fishing available on the lake.
